Here at Lemonthyme Wilderness Retreat, we have a number of bush walks that you can choose from. Our trails allow you to explore a marvellous example of Tasmania’s tranquil temperate rain forest.

From 30 minutes to 2 hours duration the highlights include Champagne, Bridal Veil the Big Tree and Lake Cethana.

You’ll be truly enchanted by the inspiring variety of flora and, if you are alert, the native wildlife and birdlife.

Champagne Falls Walk

Time: Approx 2 Hours Return

“An Enchanting walk through a towering myrtle forest and cascading waterfalls”

This interpretive walk branches off a 4WD track and begins at the Bridal Veil Via Champagne Falls turn off sign. As you walk around the track keep an eye out for majestic Myrtles, Mother Shield ferns and abundant mosses. This walk will introduce you to a number of interesting facts about the surrounding environment of Lemonthyme Wilderness Retreat.

Lake Cethana Walk

Time: Approx 2 Hours Return

“Experience this pristine wilderness as you walk along this track to Lake Cethana”

This walk starts at the junction just before turning into the lodge on the left hand side and is clearly signposted starting from the Loggers Loop/Lake Cethana turn off.

Keep a lookout for the different types of vegetation including Silver Wattles, native ferns and grasses which occur throughout this walk! The track finishes up at the back water of Lake Cethana where you can sit back, relax and enjoy the stunning scenery.

On this walk you may want to look out for the following:

  • Tiger Snakes
  • Wallabies
  • Tasmanian Devils
  • Currawongs
  • Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos
  • Kookaburras

Lake Cethana

The Big Tree Loop

Time: Approximately 40mins

“Experience the majesty of a 600 year old Eucalypts whilst wondering through a wet sclerophyll forest”

This is an easy walk with no steep climbs or descents. As you walk around the track keep an eye out for the towering eucalypts. They are estimated to be around 600 years old!

To survive this length of time, the trees require some very special conditions. These conditions along with some other interesting aspects of the forest eco system will be explained to you as you walk around the track. On this walk you may want to keep an eye out for the following:

  • Yellow Flat Worms
  • Gum Nuts
  • Mushrooms/Fungi
  • Pademelons
  • Honey Eaters & Robins
  • New Fern Growth
  • Bright Yellow Wattle Flowers (Spring)
