The road, though unsealed, has a good surface and as it winds down into the valley, reveals the beauty of the temperate rainforest. Markers at each kilometre showing the distance to the Lodge encourage guests to continue on to the final destination with spectacular glimpses of Lake Cethana and the high country of Tasmania. The journey is rewarded by the arrival at the Wilderness Retreat where relaxation is the only rule to be observed.
